AEHL’s Players of the Month – January

The Alberta Elite Hockey League is pleased to announce Brett Olson, Mason Lowther, and Crew Martinson as the Players of the Month for January.

U18 AAA – Brett Olson (Forward – St. Albert Raiders)

Olson suited up in seven games for the Raiders and he made his presence felt. The soon to be 16-year-old forward potted nine goals and 23 points in those games, including back-to-back hat tricks on January 13 and 14 against Ernie’s Sports Experts GP Storm. The Vancouver Giants first rounder has been putting up video game like numbers this season, registering 52 points in 31 games.

U17 AAA – Mason Lowther (Forward – LJAC Techmation Oil Kings)

During the month of January, Lowther played in six games for the Oil Kings, registering 15 points which included a six-point performance (four goals and two assists) on January 21 against Red Deer. Lowther finished the month averaging 2.5 points-per-game.

“Mason has brought his leadership as the captain of our team to a new level on and off the ice during the month of January. Flourishing into a true leader, he put the team on his back coming into the new year,” said Oil Kings head coach Cody Leeming.

U15 AAA – Crew Martinson (Forward – Red Deer Rebels)

Martinson dominated the U15 ranks in January with seven goals and nine assists (16 points) in six games. The Revels captain led the team to a 5-1 record in the month and a berth in the bronze medal game in the prestigious John Reid Memorial Tournament in St. Albert.

“Crew got back into our line up at the beginning of January after being out three months with an injury and has made an immediate impact. He led by example in all aspects – blocking shots and competing physically all over the ice to help the team succeed. Crew is a very talented player and leader for this team and his ability to connect with his teammates and motivate everyone is one of his best qualities,” said Rebels head coach Justin Jarmolicz.
