Provincial Championships are underway

The Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships, presented by ATB, are underway in the Alberta Elite Hockey League.

In the U15 AAA division, Okotoks is hosting the provincial championship tournament, starting today and running through Sunday. The tournament starts at 12 noon on Thursday with Edmonton KC Squires taking on the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres. Other teams vying for the title are the Airdrie Xtreme, Calgary Bisons and host Okotoks Oilers. The championship final is set for 2 pm Sunday, March 26.

Meanwhile, the best of five league championship final starts tonight in the U18 AAA division to determine the provincial champs. The final series pits the Calgary NW Flames against the St. Albert Nektar Raiders. The series opens tonight at the Jarome Iginla Arena in St. Albert at 7 pm.

The winner advances against the British Columbia champions to determine who will represent the Pacific region at the 2023 Men’s U18 National Club Championship (formerly the Telus Cup).

The U17 AAA provincial championship tournament is slated for April 6-9 in St. Albert.


This year, Hockey Alberta is offering 2023 Provincial Championship merchandise. There are a number of items to choose from and “Champions 2023” can be added to any merchandise purchased after a provincials tournament.
