The Alberta Elite Hockey League is pleased to announce Ashton Funk (Fort Sask Rangers – U18 AAA), Brett O’Halloran (NWCAA Flames – U16 AAA), and Wyatt Pisarcsyk (Airdire Xtreme – U15 AAA) as the Source for Sports Players of the Month for December.
U18 AAA – Ashton Funk (Defence – Fort Sask Rangers)
The Fort Sask Rangers headed into 2022 on top of not only the U18 AAA North Division, but the entire league, thanks in large part to a stellar December from defenceman Ashton Funk, who notched five goals and seven assists for 12 points in just six games. Funk currently leads all U18 AAA defencemen with 22 points in 22 games.
“Ashton is a very valuable member of our hockey team,” said Head Coach Brett Cox. “Ashton has a great work ethic and demands a great deal of himself. He drives each day from Athabasca, while maintaining strong grades. He is part of our Rangers Mentor program where he assists with younger player’s practices.”
U16 AAA – Brett O’Halloran (Goaltender – NWCAA Flames)
NWCAA Flames netminder Brett O’Halloran went into December without a loss, and entered 2022 with the same distinction, notching three wins in as many, with a .966 SV% and 0.98 GAA, to go with one shutout. O’Halloran finished the 2021 portion of the AEHL season with a perfect 10-0 record.
“Brett is extremely focused both in practice and games and strives to be better every day,” said Head Coach Roger McDonald. “His commitment, attitude, and work ethic is contagious and he makes all the players around him want to be better.”
U15 AAA – Wyatt Pisarczyk (Defence – Airdrie Xtreme)
The only thing more impressive thank Aidrie Xtreme defenceman Wyatt Pisarcyzk’s 10 points in December, is the fact that he did it in just two games. Pisarcyzk notched a goal and a pair of assists on December 4, and followed-up his three-point performance with a seven point game the very next night (2g, 5a).
“Wyatt had a great month of hockey,” said Manager Steven Phee “While registering 10 points in just two games, Wyatt was also extremely dominate on the defensive side of the puck.”
