Connor Johnson, Matthew Kondro, and Riley Boychuk named Source for Sports Players of the Month for December

The Alberta Elite Hockey League is pleased to announce Connor Johnson (Calgary Royals – U18 AAA),  Matthew Kondro (St. Albert Tetz Powell CPAs FlyersU17 AAA), and Riley Boychuk (Airdire Xtreme – U15 AAA) as the Source for Sports Players of the Month for December.

U18 AAAConnor Johnson (Goalie – Calgary Royals)

 

Calgary Royals goaltender Connor Johnson recorded three wins in his five December games. During those games, Johnson sported a 0.945 SV%  and 2.16 GAA, which has him sitting fifth and sixth in the league, respectively. The Calgary Royals are currently sitting tied for third in the South Division.

U17 AAAMatthew Kondro (Goalie – St. Albert Tetz Powell CPAs Flyers)

Matthew Kondro, a goaltender for the St. Albert Tetz Powell CPAs Flyers, had nearly a perfect month of December. In four games (205 minutes), Matthew allowed just one goal, producing a save percentage of 0.989% and goals against average of 0.29. up very impressive numbers in the month of November. St. Albert is currently tied for first place in the North Division.

Matthew Kondro has had an exceptional month. He brings a competitive edge to his game at all times. He is ready to jump into any game at any time, and battles for every puck. Matt’s compete level during practices raises the bar for everyone on our team, and he is consistently working on improving his goaltending abilities,” said Flyers Head Coach Carson Fleming. “He is an extremely coachable athlete, doing whatever is asked and putting the team before himself at all times. Matt has an ability to make a save when it is needed most and plays his best in big moments. Our goaltending tandem so far this season has set the bar for our league and gives our team a chance to win every game.”

U15 AAARiley Boychuk (Forward – Airdrie Xtreme)

Xtreme forward Riley Boychuk finished December as the third leading scorer in the U15 AAA division. He accrued one goal and 19 assists in seven games throughout the month, including two five-point games. His efforts have helped Airdrie stick in first place in the South Division.

“Riley is our captain, tremendous leader on and off the ice. He also has produced at a high level in the month of December and is also our most reliable centreman. He has great character, sportsmanship and drive which would be great to see him win player of the month,” said Xtreme Head Coach Tyson Soloski.
